This band are possibly the best thing I have ever heard, yes, I am biased . . .but it's totally true.
This is their debut gig, and I did some video art for the night so I thought it would be cool to synch the audio of the show (excuse the quality) with my video work. I think these images are pretty cool, but I also don't think this is the definitive visual statement for this band. It was thrown together rather quickly, having said that some of these images work well.
At this point they don't have any music for sale (there wont even be any CD's!). Check them out elsewhere on the web:

This was my first 'live' performance of sound and video. The idea behind this was to create a sound environment that had texture and enveloped people in sound, which I think I nearly achieved. I will do more of these kinds of performances in the future . . .a lot more.

Been away for a few days. It's been the kind of week spent coming home from work and drinking Asahi watching Louis Theroux doco's, which is fine as it gives me time to evaluate things. Last night I started working on this collage piece, which I think is really interesting. I had to sort of re-think the way I do things, as i had gotten a little bored of the drawings I was doing lately. For this, I imposed a no pen, pencil or brush rule, and I only used one photocopied photograph to chop up. I will be doing more of the same I think. Rules and parameters seem to yield interesting results.

Something I threw together last night which . . .came from watching Blade Runner in HD, and seeing all those amazing little lights and details in the city. I am still somewhat stuck on this idea of a noise ridden world, like that in the movie. I think in this world it would be a lot more stark and cold, and not as reliant on technology......maybe?

Spent a couple of hours tonight on this . . .which is the result of a conversation about desktop wallpapers. I think this is cool, but I really need to get myself a drawing tablet. This may get used for something, but even if it doesn't I think it breathes life into the original idea. I wanted to take the original single tree idea and push a little bit, and place it in an environment.

A new drawing that I did late last night, again dealing with the idea of a noisy world. I have not been doing much art lately (the last 2 weeks) due to being ill. This illness was induced from the consumption of Beer/sprits and the subsequent wrecking of my immune system, pathetic really. I think this piece is interesting, but I really really can't make up my mind about it at all.

I am thinking of returning to this piece . . .I was messing around with digital photo collage kinds of things, and I think I could make something interesting out of this, I will add a lot more to it. I was looking through old folders of images, and came across it, and I think it's interesting. I like the way light is hitting different elements, and adding a lot of different objects and also things in the background to give it some depth might look cool.

No chance to really do any new drawing in the last few days, as my poor old cat, Cedric (Mars Volta reference) is pretty sick . . .and seeing as I feel like cats are a huge part of my life it kind of stresses me out a lot. Anyway, I figured I would post an older drawing that I did in a sketch book that went off with hard rubbish. I did of course clean it out of any good stuff, and this was one of them. I don't remember anything about this piece, other than it is just another tree . . .yet it seems to have an interesting sort of vibe to it. I like the textures and colors, I am now remembering that it came from a photo I took while on a strange little trip to Sydney, and was one of those trees that was paved into the ground.

Some more ramblings from my highly abused new sketch book. There is a definite theme starting to take shape now, that of noise. Then again each picture really doesn't start with any particular theme in mind, just the need to escape. I am enjoying making pages completely covered in line work, and I have found it's an excellent format as well. Not all of these are great, but I think some are really interesting. I am finding that I am in a place in my life right now where filling a sketch book with the crap floating around in my head is great thing. My lovely girlfriend is currently doing a full time placement in a hospital, meaning that when I get home late at night, making a lot of noise making big messy paintings isn't going to happen . . .so working in a small space is kind of nice. Parameters of any kind are often all I need, and it's nice to fill each page with a little world all of it's own. That's all for now.

My lovely new sketch book that I have been living in since about Saturday. Just making little drawings on the tram or wherever else. Some are like fleeting thoughts passing through my head at the worst possible moment, and other are pure fun. Then, the first one is simply meant to be an exploration of something a little grotesque.

Some drawings from today . . .lots of fun to make. My aim (like other recent pieces) was to create something that had a false sense of perspective, but also a lot of visual noise. I was thinking of them in a synesthetic sort of way. I wanted to evoke the sound of an overbearing, crowded, noise saturated world . . .that might be also beautiful at the same time.
